Galtür crowns glorious winners at the last Silvrettarun 3000

The perfect weather ensured an all-round successful mountain running event at the 11th and last Silvrettarun 3000 at the weekend: With almost 606 professional and amateur runners from 23 nations, the organisers were delighted with a well-attended event with an international starting field.

"The high number of runners in the past eleven years and the large international increase, especially in the marathon sector, have encouraged us to expand the trail running capacities in Paznaun and to offer a panorama-rich ultra trail with the PIUT next year, which will enable an even broader target group to participate," says a pleased OC boss Helmut Lunner.

At this year's Silvrettarun 3000, runners could choose one of a total of four varied trail running routes, starting in Ischgl and finishing in Galtür. 84 fit runners delivered an exciting "head-to-head" race through the impressive mountain landscape on the 41.9-kilometre hard distance, which included 2,330 metres of total altitude as well as the almost 2,700-metre-high Ritzenjoch. The "Small" (11.2 kilometres and 306 metres of difference in altitude), "Light" (19.36 kilometres and 873 metres of difference in altitude) and "Medium" (29.9 kilometres and 1,482 metres of difference in altitude) versions were also very well received with 84 Hard, 182 Medium, 126 Small and 122 Light participants including Nordic Walkers. The total prize money was 7,400 euros.

The men's victory in the supreme discipline went to Hans-Peter Innerhofer from Austria with a time of 3:43.47.2. Tereza Kubickova from the Czech Republic deservedly stood on the winners' podium in the women's marathon with a time of 5:04:37.8. On the medium distance through the imposing Fimba over the Ritzenjoch and through the natural Larein, Mwenda Japhet Mutwiri from Kenya was the fastest with a time of 2:25.47.1; Adela Vetcha from the Czech Republic won the women's race with a time of 2:45.20.5. Gold on the small distance went to Dennis Cox Lopua from Kenya with 39:03.0 minutes. The fastest lady was Tanja Stroschneider from Austria in 49:35.9 minutes. On the light course Clemens Blaßnig from Austria finished first in 1:39.51.5 and Ladina Lutz from Germany in 2:13.05.6.

Doing good by running

The 11th Silvrettarun 3000 raised 3,030 euros for a good cause. Five euros per participant went to the charity partner "Wings for Life". This money is used to support promising research projects and clinical studies worldwide to heal patients with injured spinal cords or paraplegia. All information: www.wingsforlife.com.
